As a Senior Researcher at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) since April 2021, he currently leads the Proteomics Research group, where he focuses on biofluid-based clinical proteomics and precision medicine. He earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Witwatersrand and prior degrees (BSc, BSc Hons, MMedSci) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. His experience includes postdoctoral work at the CSIR and a role as a Proteomics Application Specialist at ReSyn Biosciences.
His primary research is in the discovery of protein biomarkers for diseases such as cancer and HIV/AIDS in under-represented populations and in the development of high-throughput screening tools and workflows that have been adopted worldwide. He is proficient with mass spectrometers (SCIEX, Bruker), LC systems (Dionex, Evosep), bioinformatics software (Spectronaut, MaxQuant), and core molecular biology techniques.
A recognized leader, he serves as Vice-Chairperson for the South African Association for Mass Spectrometry (SAAMS, 2023–2025) and was elected VC: Communications for the HUPO Early Career Research Committee (2025). He co-supervises five postgraduate students and has secured significant grants as Principal Investigator, including the CSIR Young Researchers Establishment Fund and an NRF Scarce Skills Postdoctoral Fellowship, underscoring his impactful publication record.
